My student was sharing with me a cool search tip with google & bing and from a picture of a happy box of french fries or something..I found this. What What on flickr takes a lot of pictures of signage & statues & a lot of them are from Japan..this one..well..seriously, what is going on here? I don't want to know....HA!
So, my family can up to visit this weekend and I was super excited about it. I didn't even realize how much I missed them all. 8 kids and 8 adults spent the better part of the weekend in my apartment because of all the rain that was coming down in L.A. It was still super fun. I even got to cook a meal - Asian Short Ribs (recipe from Real Simple) in a slow cooker and baked lots of cookies for them.
It was great seeing all the kids and having them giggling and having fun even though I live in a studio and we were all super cramped. My nieces and nephews are all really well mannered children. I took them to my favorite restaurant and the waitress was so impressed. I should have taken all the credit since she thanked me...but I didn't...and ok, why was i seated at the kids table?!? It was fine because I played some weird connect the dot game with Jaiden so that was good. He's usually so quiet and shy...
Ok, the title of this post..
So we were driving to the hotel and my nephew Micah, the one in the blue sweater, starts asking for a song and he keeps saying, "Little Big Time." His older brother, Noah, asks him "Little Big Planet?" And he's getting frustrated and keeps saying "No. Little Big Time" in his little 2 year old voice. I ask him "Micah, sing the song.."
So he starts kind of singing "Little..big.. time. doo doo do" And I'm thinking, "what's that?"
Noah says "he wants to hear "Sweet Carolline." " Because they really love that Glee soundtrack and that's one of the songs!!!
Oh my gosh! I almost died from the cute! So now every time I hear that song I'll think "Little Big Time!" HA HA HA!!!
Here are those cookies I made today. Not sure they look as good as they taste but here you go...
Delicious!
Anyway, here's my family...And the closest we got to seeing the Hollywood sign! LOL!
More puppy picks! I love them!
And yes, it belongs in all CAPS!
so, back at the library because it's sunday. I was supposed to run this morning but it was ice cold and pitch black at 6am so I stayed curled up in bed dreaming of baking and all the things I need to get done today.
I spent the morning watching "The Big Bang Theory" Season 1.
I love Sheldon! This show had me laughing so much and maybe it's a little sad that I can understand a lot of the nerdy references. But this show is so great and the characters are awesome and I love everyone in it.
Also, I continued my winter holiday baking extravaganza!!!! extravaganza!!!!! EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My house smells like chocolate cookies. Last night, I started making ginger cookies and I wanted to throw in some crystallized ginger candies in there but I had to drive all over the Valley to find crystallized ginger. Someone totally was thinking the same thing and bought it all up in every store within a 5 mile radius!!! Do you believe that??!??? ugh! But, after an hour of driving, I finally found some at the store closest to my studio! Double GAH!!! But they add a nice little ginger pop so I'm happy even though I totally wasted gas...oh well. So I finished that up this morning and then started what has to be my best cookie EVER!
I took this Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe from the Food Network and tweeked it a bit. I added toffee bits, more chocolate chips, and melted a cup of chocolate (I kind of had stuff lying around so I just threw them in the bowl). Let me tell you! YUM! My mouth is watering thinking about it. I need to make more because this recipe is a winner! I could eat a whole batch of them by myself. When I get home I'll post some pictures but they might not look as delicious as they taste. I need to send these up to Felicious and my new penpal.
Things that I should write more about:
Penpal Party - i got my first letter today! and sent out one last week! I love it :) Letters are so fun! I have to send my new penpal some stuff...
Family visiting days - my family was here...I miss them...
Annoying Patron - um. there is 1 woman who annoys the crap out of me every Sunday. I can't deal with her and it's like she's a cat and can sense it, You know, I have a mild cat allergy and cats know and they are always making a b-line towards me...this woman is the same way. She just needs to not come to my station at the reference desk. She got on my bad side and for some reason I'm not letting it go with her. Most of the time I just forget people but she was that awful. I think I kind of tick her off on purpose. I know, that's mean but I can't help it----she's evil!
Alright, that's all for now. Happy Sunday from the Reference Desk!!!
Did you see this? Someone posted it on Friendfeed and then I followed the boingboing link and then I followed that link... Here it is

Oh my gosh! oh my gosh! that is the so scary!! And I really shouldn't have watched this at 6:45am!!! The hairs on the back of my neck went up! And she lived there for weeks!!! weeks!!!! Ok, and it's over the news now too!
Yes, I do not have cable tv. And after this weekend of dogwatching and having cable, I realized this is the best possible thing for me. I would be seriously broke!
They sure do show a whole lotta informercials in the wee hours of the morning and damn, those products sure look good.AND in my half-awake state, if I had my phone and credit card conveniently placed by my bed, I would probably have ordered these products:
- The YUDU! What can You Do?!?! - it's a screenprinting machine...all in one and even professional screenprinters are using it!!! OMG!
- The Slice - it's digital, it's cordless, it slices stuff oh so nicely!
- P90x - It's a gym..in my house! it's extreme! That guy's like 80 years old and he looks like he's 40! This one just sucks me in because I'm addicted to fitness...kind of...
- The Principal Secret - Reclaim - I know this will probably burn my skin off but it's Victoria Principal people! Does anyone even remember her?!?!
So, yes, i should not have cable tv because everything in my house would be a tv product....
And also this morning I caught the most hilarious episode of Supernanny EVER! It was the British one too on Style TV. Seriously, if Supernanny doesn't stop people from having children I don't know what will! It's more powerful than birth control! Anyway, so in this episode, which I really wish there was a clip for, Supernanny has to deal with the most evil little 9 year old I've ever seen! And hello, aren't British children supposed to be super proper and respectful? This completely shattered my view..but then again there is Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen so there...
This girl was 9 with 2 younger sisters. Her sisters were super cute and it came to the part where Supernanny has to lay down the rules and also the consequences. The oldest girl, who sounded like she was 16, starts screaming "That's for sissies! That's stupid! Big Babies!" and then gets sent into the Reflection Room. Ok, there were no g.d. reflection rooms, my parents spanked me and honestly, thank god because I would have been a monster! So, they send the girl to the Reflection Room and she is just raging. Her dad walks in and asks for an apology and Supernanny is standing there. The girl starts yelling "She's not even a member of this family!" Then climbs over the table and attacks the Supernanny, literally kicking and punching and then takes Supernanny's arm and starts scratching up and down it like a cat and then ..get this..the monster BITES her! BITES!!!! Then Supernanny is remaining calm and saying in the most soothing tones "This is just [monster] being angry. She's just angry." WTH?!?!?!?! OH! NO! Later in the episode, she ends up calling Supernanny at B*(&(! and then also walks over to her sister and just smacks her in the arm for no reason. Oh my gosh she was awful! Her mom grabs her and then says "you pinched [your sister]" and the monster says "I didn't pinch her. I punched her." La la la.
Seriously, if that isn't a demon spawn I don't know what is. Awful and yet, pretty hilarious because it was so appalling.
See, I don't want to know this about British and/or American families. No thank you. and no thank you cable tv. I'd be broke and I'd think everyone had bad parenting skills...and children are monsters...
I'll stay uninformed in those areas thank you very much.
In an effort to consolidate all things bloggy and potty (euw)...I'm moving most of my blogging activity, posting of items and all general stuff to:
But that doesn't mean I'm abandoning this space. At least...not entirely. I'll try to crosslink updates and of course, I need to keep this account active to keep an eye on you hooligans.
Before I begin..what is going on with Vox? It's been acting weird..first I inserted a photo and it ended up on some weird part of my screen. Now there's a weird vertical orange line in the content box...I don't understand?!?!
I have a new addiction...and it is called needle felting. Have you tried it? It's so fun. I also started wet felting. I've made this funny looking macaroon cookie thing. I need to buy thos weird googley eyeball things and stick it on it. I've made a pin. I wet felted some soap. And now I'm working on a weird cuff/corsage. I can't stop! I need an intervention where someone stops me from going to the Home Ec Shop.
You can take a class with Jenny Ryan, who is really nice and sweet and super supportive. I'm so glad I could take a class this time. I always miss out because they really sell out pretty fast.
Thanksgiving was super fun. We actually had an early celebration the week before and then the day of I hung out with Ambookgeek and Melle. So fun! We watched "The September Issue" and then ate at the French Market/Quarter in WeHo. I'm so glad I could spend it with 2 fantastic friends.
Also, there's only "14 teaching days" (someone corrected me this morning after I blurted out - "We have 3 weeks left til break!!!" - nope only 14 days.
I think I will bake my cookies for the staff & faculty next week. I have some new recipes and I invested in a Kitchenaid stand-up mixer. I already made this awesome chocolate pecan pie with it. Well I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
Also, it's Worlds AIDS day today.
This three dish set is avilable on Etsy if you're interested. I'm crazy about lidded items lately so if you have any requests (that you can receive after the Christmas rush)...don't hesitate to drop me a line.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I feel like a curmudgeon. These past two months have been kind of hectic, like the Universe decided to kick me in the pants and I'm trying to figure out what it is I need to get a clue about.
Lessons I Should Probably Remember:
1. It's ok to ask for help - during my whole experience with my recently paid off car, I had to ask my mom for help. I hate asking for help from anyone. Usually, I just suffer and feel like crap about my self. But this time, I asked, it felt awful but overall, I'm not beating myself up about it. Because really, that just makes me sick mentally and physically.
2. Save money, stay in town - so due to the car stuff, I'm staying home for Turkey Day. The brighter side, I'm going to hang out with Ambookgeek. Also, my friends are awesome and have invited me to Turkey Day festivities so I had those options but I'm really looking forward to a movie and Chinese food. Also, Headphonerecord and Felicious will be in town for the weekend so I will get to spend some time with them too because I miss them so much!
3. Potlucks are the bomb, but plan it for the weekend - This wednesday we had our potluck and hello, can I just tell you my friends know how to cook!!! Amazing! Amazing mac & cheese, delicious stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, yummy cornbread muffins, mashed potatoes, spicy spicy greens, the best sweet potatoes (hold the marshmallows but throw on the crumb topping), turkey, ham, cheese plate goodness! Such a fun time. We missed some people but hopefully next year, if we do it over a Friday night we can actually not feel guilty about enjoying the cocktails and staying up late.
4. Open the door and let people in - I started a hula class and am starting to hang out with my other coworkers. I tend to like to keep things together but separate. Does that make sense? I try not to have the lines of my life cross over too much but this year, I have approached things differently. So, now I'm in the hula class that is actually testing the lines I have drawn. It makes me uncomfortable but I'm also feeling a little better about things. I just have a hard time trusting people and this class, for some reason, is really pushing that wall. I don't know if it will ever come down completely but I think there's a little crack.
